Growing up, summers spent on the Mediterranean meant lots and lots of pitchers of sangria. Served not only over a long leisurely lunch, but throughout the day, the cold punch-like drink can be, well… deadly!
Since I’m not spending my Memorial Day floating in the salty waters off the coast of Spain, I decided to bring my favorite lethal weapon, home! Cue in: sangria popsicles.
A slight spin on the beverage, that can be made using leftover sangria or as the piece de resistance, these popsicles will bring the kid back in you. And you’ll probably have (gasp!) more that one!
Here’s how I made them:
I filled a pitcher with my Mum’s sangria recipe – its simple and ‘healthier’ than many varieties, but more than anything, it tastes like home.
Once the batch is made, fill popsicle molds with the sangria, including pieces of chopped fruit. You’ll most likely have leftovers (there could be worst things than leftover sangria) so I urge you to fill a glass of ice, and sip. Plus you’ll need to wait for the freezer to do it’s magic.
Cheers a boozy Memorial Day Weekend and to the start of a sangria-filled summer!
